Bottom line:
Babylove have created the Ezy Grow EP in the new category of 6mo – 8 yr harnessed car seats as an alternative to the booster seats. Particularly for older children (4-8yrs of age), this may be a more safe position because of the use of a harness instead of the lap-sash belt normally used in boosters.
However, it may be a bit roomy if your young infant is on the smaller side and the lack of recline options may make it difficult to sleep without their heads flopping forward.
Ezy Protect headrest protection is included in this model and Babylove have also paid attention to making the liner more plush and comfortable. Our survey of reports from children who have used this seat seem to agree.
The downside you get with this seat is that when your child grows, you will need to manually rethread the harness to a higher slot, which generally requires removing the seat. This becomes an inconvenience, especially if you have been relying on professional installation.
An issue is that as a harnessed seat that is designed to span the ages of 6 months through to 8 years, a period of 7.5 years, it is a bit concerning that the warranty for the mouldings, harness and fittings – i.e. the important parts, is only for 5 years. And in the hyper-safety conscious segment that is child car seats, this is worth considering.
Who this is for:
Parents looking for a well-priced Type-G (6mo – 8 yr) harnessed car seat but can look past the manual rethread harness.
