Pros and cons

Pros

+ Active Head Restraint
+ Baby and toddler insert
+ Hassle-free harness easy adjust

Cons

– Only 6mo+
– No premium fabric
– Booster seat from 4-8yrs, new Type G car seats keep harnessed to 8 years

Bottom line:

The Britax Maxi Rider is a convertible front-facing harness seat from approx 6mo – 4yr and a booster seat from approx 4yr – 8 yr.
It does have Active Head Restraint as a safety feature but it is missing Britax’s side impact protection SICT.

While it does do its job in a workmanlike way, the new type G harnessed car seats are probably better because they allow harnessing all the way to 8 years.

Britax’s Maxi Guard, particularly the PRO, is probably a better proposition as a newer harnessed car seat design, or if you are really keen on a convertible booster seat, look at the Maxi Cosi Titan Pro which has G-Cell and nicer fabric. However, in light of better alternatives, the store price which has been seen below $300 represents this seat’s position in the pecking order.

Who this is for:

Parents looking for an affordable convertible booster seat instead of a harnessed car seat.
